xx Off-Topic Forum Opened
February 23, 2009, 05:04:48 am by AndySonSon

*Sigh*...Well, as we all know, this forum has become inactive in my late absence.  Thus, the forum has become a bit inactive. (Am I really that crucial to the survival of this forum?)  What's more, I'll try to divert what time I can here, but things are just picking up really heavily now.  In order to make a temporary stimulus in this forum, I'm going to open up an Off-Topic Board.  For the time being, I'll trust the Admins to come up with appropriate, make-shift rules, if they feel like putting them up.  I'll try to get back to it later and try to make some more finalized rules.  Remember, I highly doubt this will be permanent.  I only do this because I want to get your guys' attention here, but I don't have the time or resources to do so, so I've taken these measures.  I trust that you all will be appropriate with this.  You guys are all intelligent if you're at this forum, so I trust the better judgement of all of you.  Thus,

New Off-Topic Forum Created

Also, this does NOT necessarily mean that there will be an Arcade.  I doubt that's going up one way or another.  Enjoy, and have a wonderful day.

xx New Banner
January 13, 2009, 08:35:29 pm by AndySonSon

Check it out.  You know the official banner I was talking about?  It actually got finished a couple of days ago, but I haven't had time to update it until now.  What do you think?

Also, here's the code to put in your signature:

Code:
[url=http://spambusters.smfforfree3.com/index.php][IMG]http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o217/craZyRacrXtreme/spambusters.png[/IMG][/url]

Give CRX credit for the work. Smiley  Be sure to put this in every forum you go to that has people that will be interested in helping the cause.  Specifically, LEGO-related forums.  Enjoy!

xx Origins
December 07, 2008, 05:41:33 am by Unimatrix Zero

What really are the Spambusters? Wise men say that the best way to find out is to find out its origins, and I for once take their advice.

This is the story of the Knights of Honor, and the contributions they made to the Spambusters... It is a story of uphills and downfalls, a story of never giving up... A story of people pushing forward, and not giving up, even if measures were taken to stop them...

Quote
Sometime in mid-2005, the Lego.com message boards were getting out of hand. Spam, arguments, double posting, flame wars, and hurt feelings were everywhere. Watching all of this was a well-respected and popular member of the Boards, called conductorjoe. He had been a member of the Lego.com club since its first year, 1999. He started posting on the Lego Message Boards around 2003. For years he had posted here, and had not gone to any other forum, quite content to post there. However one day he met another member on the Boards, Puddleglum. The two instantly hit off, and they ended up going to a website called Classic-Castle.com. Conductorjoe was amazed; their forum was so much different than the Lego.com boards. After him that he began visiting many Lego forums and resource sites across the Net. When he came back to the Lego boards, he had a mission.

Conductorjoe deterermined to do everything he could to help make the Lego.com message boards a better place. They were in even worse shape than when he had gone there before, and something needed to be done. For almost another year, he continued to post valuable and well-thought out posts, earning the respect of most active members on the Boards. Then one day he got an idea.

He called it the Knights of Honor. It would be a sort of "club” that members on the Boards could join. It was based in a topic on the Message Boards forum of the Boards. Every member pledged to be helpful, kind, use good grammar, and be a good member wherever they went. Within days, it exploded. Members from all over the Boards rushed to join, and soon every active member of the Boards was part of it. They called conductorjoe their "King". It was then that conductorjoe decided that he couldn't run this alone, and chose several members to help him run it. Here are those members:

Prime Minister (Assistant to the King): Factory87(later Astronaut100000000)
Head Guard: Johnny---Thunder
Head Brickstormer: thegreatmasterbuilder
Head Recruiter: Werthog500(This position came later)

There were also numerous sub-positions, which were Home Guards and Brickstormers. Home Guards were charged with keeping the KOH topic on the Boards clean and orderly, and Brickstormers thought of new ideas for KOH.

I know there are some positions and people I have forgotten, if you are one of them please PM conductorjoe.

All over, the Boards were changing. In their signatures people would put "Proud Member of KOH".(And some still do today) Mean or spammy members joined KOH and changed, becoming helpful and kind members of the Boards. Things were looking great for KOH.

After a few months, however, trouble began to stir. After a huge mix-up and a string of lies from a member claiming to be representing KOH, many feelings were hurt and KOH was blamed for something that did not even happen. Soon the moderators got involved, and warned us that they might close down our topic.

The members responsible for the mix-up soon organized into a "club" they called the Anti-KOH. Only a few members were in it, and all they did was make plans and say things that they couldn't do. However the damage was done, and KOH's reputation with the moderators was ruined.

After a few weeks, the moderators proved they were serious and closed down the KOH topic. On the Lego.com boards, if there is no topic, there is nothing. This was the beginning of the end of KOH on the Boards.

The members of KOH tried to get their topic back, even asking the mods nicely for another chance. Pegma even helped KOH get a topic, although it was closed right away by the mods.

For a long while, the Boards continued as if KOH was still there, with many members still saying "Proud member of KOH". Eventually, for some reason, the moderators banned any mention of KOH. Conductorjoe was sure that was the end, and went on with his life, largely leaving the Boards.

But, he was wrong. Johnny---Thunder, another well-respected member of the Boards, started his own forum using the ForumCityUSA free forums. Somehow he was able to get a link to it on the Lego boards(Links there are usually not allowed), and many members clicked the link. The site was about Drome Racing, a game on Lego.com, and was called the Nitro HQ. Little did Johnny---Thunder(Who is today staff at iBricks) know what he had just made way for.

A member called R.E.D.Racer87 came to the Nitro HQ and decided he would start his own Drome Racing forum. He used ForumCityUSA and made Drome Racing Challenge(DRC)'s Headquarters, and was able to get a link on the Boards. Somehow, a handful of KOH members clicked the link and came there. They were all excited to get together in one place. Those original members were REDRacer(of course, he was the owner), Zero Degrees(ZD), Astronaut10000000, Mas11112, and many of the members from the Nitro HQ. As all of them except Red were KOH members, they made a forum for KOH there and designated it their new base, in place of the old topic on the Boards.

Then it happened. Conductorjoe was surfing the boards, and by chance found a link to DRC's HQ. He went there, and couldn't believe what he found. He was ecstatic, and soon everybody at DRC's HQ was excited as well.

Previously, Conductorjoe had operated several sites, and had experience in web design and forums. At that moment his webmaster instincts kicked in, and he decided to start a KOH forum. He already had web hosting for his other sites, and used it to buy a domain, Legokoh.com. Then he installed a PhpBB forum, similar to ForumCityUSA, and the KOH Forum was born. On that original forum, only the members of DRC's HQ were there, along with a handful of members coming from his other site, which was pretty much dead.
That original, simply forum was only around a couple of days. Conductorjoe knew about a forum software called Invisionfree from his real-life friend(Known on iBricks as Danishmo), and decided it was the best to use for KOH's forum. This is something he never changed his mind about-InvisionFree(IF) is the best forum software there is.

He got an IF KOH forum going, and spent no more than an hour making it. He closed down the original KOH forum, and his original sites, replacing them all with a redirect to the new IF forum. He was shifting all his efforts to this new site.

Within a few weeks, members from DRC's HQ, Nitro HQ, and most from Conductorjoe's old sites were there. It was active even in its early days, and grew in popularity among the IF community. A great advertising scheme was devised, and the Lego Message Boards was the outlet. Through several accounts with Legokoh.com in their usernames, they brought many Lego Boards members to the KOH forum, and they thrived. Although we could no longer go on the Lego Boards, we upheld our standards even on Legokoh.com. Soon, even adults were getting into it. This continued for months.

After a while, the original KOH positions were abolished, and instead those members(as well as some new members) were made moderators. Astronaut1000000 was made an administrator, since he was once the Prime Minister. However, soon a new problem faced KOH.

Due to Conductorjoe being inactive, a mess of problems faced KOH. It caused the loss of Astronaut10000000 and ItsOnlyMe, both admins, and the loss of good friends to Conductorjoe. A whole mess of problems faced KOH, and there was even a risk of us being hacked at one point. The problems threatened to topple the Knights of Honor. But, good always wins over evil. Many of the members of KOH were(and are) Christians, and they believed God had a purpose for this. That is what kept us together, and made it all turn out well in the end.

After that Legokoh.com suffered a long period of stagnation, and although it partially recovered, it was never quite the same. One day, Conductorjoe decided that a fresh start was needed, and seeing that the KOH members were open to this, he decided to make a new site. (I should say here, that due to certain issues, the domain name was changed to KOHCastle.com at one point)

Although many members had grown to love KOHCastle, Conductorjoe decided it was for the best to close it down and start anew. However this time he was prepared, and had learned so much from the time of the original KOH forum. He and his mom, brainstorming late at night, came up with the name of iBricks. A handful of talented people were chosen to help shape the new site, and almost a month was spent building the new site.

When iBricks was released to the public, most members discovered that Conductorjoe was right. This site was even better than KOH. Members who before had disliked KOH were coming to iBricks, and within a few days it was the most popular LEGO forum on InvisionFree. Later, the InvisionFree site was closed down and our present-day site, running on licensed IPB, came into being.

Around this time, when iBricks had not yet been released, Astronaut1000000, ItsOnlyMe, and most of the other people involved in that conflict reconciled and became friends again. It turned out for good, and all involved learned valuable lessons.

KOH lives on in its forum on iBricks, and the spirit of KOH still dwells within the iBricks members. KOH will never truly die, but its founding ideas will live on in the hearts of the honorable and good.

Want to add something to this? PM Conductorjoe!

That is the story of the KOH, but what about the story of the Spambusters?

It started around the July of 2007, I believe. A news topic, called the MNNS, was created in the News forum, by a member named n1343 (AKA Rakoua, or now, me). Neo Blademan Seed Cross (Omega Blademan now) joined the news station with an idea about a Bionicle Multi Member Story. Preparations were long and disorderly, and sometime during that time Omega told Rakoua to join BZPower, a forum site about BIONICLE. After some time, he did, and Rakoua reduced his activity on the LMBs. MNNS was closed by the mods for being old. Then, a member named Rahkshi8000 invited Rakoua to MLNO, a MLN forum. Two months later, Rahkshi posted the above story, and Rakoua showed immediate interest. It was the beginning of Spambusters. A topic was posted in MLNO's LEGO forum called the Spam Destroyers, and Rahkshi8000 was made the Supreme Commander. The cleaning of the LMBs started, but it failed because of the lack of the numbers KOH possessed. A forum was made, but was closed because of inactivity. The Spambusters separated, but Rakoua never forgot the LMBs, without which he would never be here, and continued his efforts on BZP to stop test posting... But without much success, and the only thing it caused was a flame war that resulted in removal of Proto from a member. A while later, he stumbled at the link to the old Spambusters forum in his favorites, and remembered it... He posted a topic in the LEGO Forum, called The Resurrection, claiming that the Spambusters will be restarted. A newer, enthusiastic member named AndySonSon, showed interest in it and the two created this forum... Well, mostly Andy did it, but anyway.

And that is how we came into being.
